TRANS JOY TRANS JOY TRANS JOY
This Scottish magazine presented poems, book reviews, personal stories, and articles that discuss many issues faced by the “gender community” (people who identified as crossdressers, transsexuals, and transgender). Topics covered include appearance, passing, healthcare, transitioning, terminology, support groups, legislation, travel, and familial and romantic relationships. - quoted from the DigitalTransgenderArchive
The Tartan Skirt was published between 1992 and 1995. Some of the language used will seem unfamiliar and outdated, but don't let your preconceptions push you back from enjoying and learning from their contents. For instance, these were published at a time when the term "transgender" was still being conceptualised, and other terms such as "transsexual" and "transgenderist" were being used instead.
I have collected some of my favourite clippings here for you to peruse and enjoy. The Tartan Skirt has many longer and more thought proviking articles (discussions on labels, communities, acceptance and language for example) so do consider checking out the full magazine, I've linked to them with the images!
